Wrexham Local signs for Crusaders

North Wales Crusaders have this week signed former Crusaders junior Alfie Matthias. The 24 year old outside back returns to his local team having most recently represented Thatto Heath Crusaders. Matthias is no stranger to the club having played at U16 and U18 level and then featuring for the reserves before moving on in 2019, playing for Thatto Heath since 2020.

Assistant Coach Simon Reynolds knows Matthias particularly well having coached him for North Wales Origin in last year's series in which Matthias picked up the player of the series award. More recently Reynolds has also coached him at international level as Matthias appeared for Wales Dragonhearts against England in November.

North Wales Crusaders aim to create pathways for local players with first team Crusaders honours available for the stand out talents and we hope to see local players like Alfie progressing to the first team more regularly in the next few seasons, boosted by the links between the coaching staff and the North Wales Origin and Wales Dragonheart set ups.

Matthias arrives on a similar deal to both Kieran Taylor and Ryan Ellis and will be available to play for Thatto Heath Crusaders if not selected for North Wales Crusaders matchday squad.
